Was Slavery “Racist”? Or was it simply the economics of labor at the time?

Is the victimhood and blame that Blacks are encouraged to have (by politicians and self-appointed leaders) – along with the internalized guilt Whites still maintain to this day – based on an accurate portrayal of history, or an over-embellished and sensationalized bastardization of American heritage meant to divide this Country’s citizens as whole?
